Mel B asks her dad for forgiveness as she hints his death triggered Stephen Belafonte divorce

Mel B has opened up about her father’s death in a heartbreaking Instagram post, where she asks her late dad, Martin Brown, for forgiveness as she hints that his passing is what triggered her decision to divorce husband Stephen Belafonte.

Martin died in March this year, with Mel filing for divorce just 16 days later, alleging that Stephen had emotionally, physically and sexually abused her throughout their 10-year marriage.

Now Mel has suggested that her father had encouraged her to leave Stephen, sharing a poignant poem about her dad with her 1 million Instagram followers.

Alongside the poem, Mel wrote: “The pain of losing my daddy is beyond [what] anyone could ever understand, but in the mist of all my raw emotions and pain of his passing he gave me the clarity and strength to set my life on the right track and I’m sooo thankful of this awakening.

“From March 4th when he died I now live with no shame the life every girl/ daddy’s girl should live, and that’s a life with no fear or disrespect, but a life with ONLY love and respect and honesty.

“Dad, I love you but I would give anything just to talk you one last time, just so you know how much I truly love you and for you to know I’m now living THAT life, and no matter what anyone says or anyone does I will ALWAYS and forever only live this way.

“So I hope you forgive me for my mistakes, and trust in me that my eyes are now wide open and I want to do you proud from here on in!! #betterlatethannever #ripdaddy #imissyoueverysingleday #thepainisreal”.

Mel was quickly inundated with supportive messages from her followers, with one writing: “You are a beautiful woman inside and out.. Hold your head up high and be proud of who you are… And I know your dad is!”

Mel previously ended a decade-long feud with her sister, Danielle, following their father’s death.

The star is currently embroiled in a bitter divorce battle with Stephen, who has accused Mel of “cocaine and alcohol addiction” in his legal paperwork.
