House of Cards troll Theresa May over live debate no-show
In case you missed it, the big news yesterday was that Prime Minister Theresa May refused to take part in a live debate against her political opponents, instead sending Home Secretary Amber Rudd in her place.
Aside from the SNP’s Nicola Sturgeon, all of the other main party leaders were there, including Labour’s Jeremy Corbyn and the Liberal Democrat’s Tim Farron.
Viewers of the 90-minute BBC broadcast were left unimpressed by May’s no-show, and the other leaders wasted no time in taking swipes at the Conservative party as they claimed that May “couldn’t be bothered” to show up.
Although the remarks from viewers and other politicians was expected, what we didn’t think we’d see is a US television show involving themselves in the drama, with many being left amused when the official Twitter account for Netflix’s political drama House of Cards trolling the Prime Minister.
Directly reaching out to May, the page wrote: “@theresa_may They respect you more when you show strength. Or show up”, alongside a gif of the show’s star, Kevin Spacey, walking into the US Senate.

When May announced the snap General Election earlier this year, she made it clear that she will not be participating in any head-to-head debates with her opponents, which was met with a mixed reaction from the British public.
