Jeremy Corbyn speaks to grime artist Jme about why young people don't vote

In case you somehow hadn’t noticed, there is a general election on its way, and there is just one week left to register to vote on June 8th if you haven’t already done so.

One of the biggest issues with politics at the moment is that an overwhelming amount of 18-24 year olds don’t vote at all, something that Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn is eager to change ahead of this year’s election.

Jeremy discussed why young people don’t feel compelled to vote with Jme.

Sitting down with grime artist Jamie Adenuga, known as Jme, Jeremy listened to the reasons why young people feel reluctant to vote.

Taking to Twitter to share a photo from their meeting, Jme wrote: “I met @jeremycorbyn today, and explained why bare of us don’t vote. I forgot to ask for a pic, so here’s one I borrowed.”

The pair also took to Jeremy’s Snapchat account, urging those watching to register to vote with Jme later taking to his Twitter page to give a step-by-step process on how to do so.

He wrote to his 700,000 followers: “Listed by process [but] numbered by importance.

2. Register to vote

4. Know who you are voting for

1. Know why you are voting them

3. Vote [sic]”.

Jme is just the latest grime artist to offer his support to Jeremy Corbyn, with Stormzy previously praising the Labour leader for campaigning against apartheid last year.

Jme appears to be a fan of Labour’s Corbyn.

He told The Guardian at the time: “My man, Jeremy! Young Jeremy, my guy. I dig what he says. I saw some sick picture of him from back in the day when he was campaigning about anti-apartheid and I thought: yeah, I like your energy.

“Have you seen that footage of House of Commons? They’re all neeky dons! The way they all laugh and cheer. Is this f*cking Game Of Thrones?

“You lot have got real issues to talk about and deal with [and] that’s why I like Jeremy: I feel like he gets what the ethnic minorities are going through and the homeless and the working class.”
