Stephen Fry accepts blame for Theresa May's snap general election

Earlier today, Prime Minister Theresa May stunned everybody when she announced that a snap general election will be taking place on June 8th, despite repeatedly claiming that there will be no election before the one planned for 2020.

Needless to say, British citizens soon took to social media to share their reaction to May’s announcement, including much-loved TV star Stephen Fry, who bizarrely blames himself for the entire thing.

Turns out it’s all Stephen’s fault.
Turns out it’s all Stephen’s fault.

Taking to his increasingly popular Twitter page, Stephen revealed that he has some kind of curse when it came to politics and that he feels as though he is responsible for the latest election news.

He explained: “It’s my fault. Last time I was in Britain a referendum gave us Brexit.

“Then I went to the US & Trump happened. Now I come home and… #sorry”.

The star’s 12.5million followers responded in abundance, with one quipping back: “You didn’t happen to stop off in Turkey on the way back did you?”

Others added: “No offence, but perhaps you could stay in the house for a bit. Maybe write another book or two until this all blows over.”

“If you could kindly visit the other EU nations and kindly level the playing field again, we may yet prevail!”

And: “Don’t go to France, whatever you do.”

Advice that Stephen will hopefully follow.

As well as celebrity responses to the snap election, Twitter was also inundated with daytime TV fans who were left fuming after rolling news coverage of Downing Street saw both This Morning and Loose Women get cancelled earlier today.

Speaking about her decision to hold an election, May explained: “The country is coming together but Westminster is not.

Theresa May has called for a snap general election.

“I have concluded the only way to guarantee certainty and security for years ahead is to hold this election.

“It is with strong conviction that I believe it is necessary to secure a strong and stable leadership this country needs.”

We guess only time will tell what happens next… We just hope that Stephen Fry isn’t in the country on June 8th.
