Adele fans flock to Wembley Stadium to sing in her honour

In the early hours of yesterday morning, Adele took to social media to express her sorrow and heartache at being forced to cancel the remaining two dates of her tour.

The singer was due to perform at Wembley Stadium last night and this evening [2 July] but damage to her vocal cords left her unable to perform.

The heartbroken star apologised profusely to fans, admitting that she was so desperate to make them happy that she had even considered miming through the shows but ultimately did not want to rip them off.

The announcement was a huge blow to Adele’s fans, especially as it came just days after the mum-of-one admitted that she might not ever tour again.

However, fans have shown their support to the star by launching the ‘Sing For Adele’ campaign, with disappointed concertgoers being encouraged to attend Wembley Stadium and sing Adele’s tracks in her honour, stating: “Adele can’t sing for us but we can sing for her.”

The campaign had unprecedented success, with some fans even bringing along guitars and microphones as they huddled outside of the concert venue and performed Adele’s much-loved songs.

Those who couldn’t make it to Wembley were sure to show their support elsewhere, with the craze even spreading to Oxford Street where a girl started performing with a piano in the middle of the pavement.

Writing on the campaign’s official Facebook page, one fan explained: “It’s fair to say that Adele could do with a pick me up right now.

“She’s just had to cancel her last two shows because of damage to her vocal chords, and she’s absolutely gutted.

“I think we should send her some love.”

The event was spread across yesterday and today, meaning that more fans will no doubt be showing up at Wembley tonight to show their support to the star.

Adele has not yet responded to the heartfelt gesture, but Yahoo Celeb UK have contacted the singer’s rep for comment.
