Grenfell Tower fire: Adele comforts victims during emotional visit to the scene

Last night, superstar Adele was pictured offering comfort and support at the scene of the Grenfell Tower tragedy.

At least 12 people have died and many others are in serious condition in hospital after the apartment block in North Kensington caught fire in the early hours of yesterday [14 June] morning.

Those who managed to escape the blaze have lost their homes and all of their possessions, and are currently being supported by donations from members of the public.

Keen to do whatever she could to help, Adele kept a low profile as she attended a vigil for victims and survivors of the fire, with the singer and her husband, Simon Konecki, comforting people in the streets.

An Adele fan account wrote on Twitter: “Adele was going around and hugging everyone she could to comfort them.”

Another added: “Adele was spotted at Grenfell Tower today, offering her support to everyone affected by the tragedy.”

Adele is just the latest in a long line of stars to reach out to victims of the fire, with Lily Allen previously offering her nearby home for “beds and tea” and Jamie Oliver offering free food, refuge and “love” at his nearby Jamie’s Italian restaurant.

On top of that, singer Rita Ora was spotted sorting through donations at one of the community centres yesterday, with the star previously revealing that she used to play in Grenfell Tower block as a child.

Notting Hill Methodist Church held a touching vigil for victims of the blaze at sunset last night, with Rev. Mike Long telling the emotional crowd: “There are times when all the words we can say are not adequate and sometimes words fail us because no words can do justice to how we feel, or what we have seen or what has happened.

“Today is one of those days.

“What we can simply do is look to all that we have seen today which is good, which is fabulous – people getting together.

“Let light triumph over all that is rotten, that is desperate and that defies our understanding.”

The cause of the fire is yet to be confirmed, but residents of the block had been publicly telling the council that Grenfell Tower is “unsafe” for years.
