A judge stops the auction of Madonna's worn knickers and used hairbrush

A judge has ordered for an “outrageous and grossly offensive” auction of Madonna’s most personal items to be stopped.

The 58-year-old singer sought an emergency court order after she learned that Gotta Have It! Collectables were planning on selling the bizarre items, including her worn underwear and a hairbrush containing her hair.

Also among the personal items was a love letter from the late Tupac Shakur, which was expected to go for as much as $400,000.

In the court papers that she submitted, Madonna stated that she had no idea that the items – particularly the love letter – were no longer in her possession, and she also raised concern that fans could “extract DNA” from her hairbrush.

She explained: “The fact that I have attained celebrity status as a result of success in my career does not obviate my right to maintain my privacy, including with regard to highly personal items.

“I understand that my DNA could be extracted from a piece of my hair. It is outrageous and grossly offensive that my DNA could be auctioned for sale to the general public.

“I was shocked to learn of the planned auctioning of the Shakur letter, as I had no idea that the Shakur letter was no longer in my possession.”

Manhattan State Supreme Court Judge Gerald Leibovitz consequently ordered that 22 of the listed items – including cassette tapes of unreleased records, private photos, and personal letters – to be pulled from sale.

In the legal documents, Madonna accuses her “former friend”, Darlene Lutz, as the person behind the sale, citing: “[Darlene] would have had access to these items on numerous occasions” as she was a “frequent overnight guest” when the star was not at home.

A spokesperson for Darlene has denied the allegations and vowed that they will be challenging Madonna in court over the claims.
