Madonna moves entire family to Portugal to help her son become a football star

Alongside her iconic singing career, Madonna is famed for two things: being a pretty dedicated mum and also being a little bit wacky.

Which is why it’s not overly surprising to hear that the 58-year-old star plans to uproot her entire family in a bid to help her 11-year-old son become an international football star.

Yes, according to the Daily Mail, Madonna plans to move her entire family from New York to Portugal, 3,300 miles away, so that her adopted son, David Banda, can play in the junior squad of world-famous Portugese club, Benfica.

Speaking to the publication, a source explained: “David recently spent a week at Benfica and his prodigious talents impressed everyone.

“Madonna is determined to give her kids every opportunity in life and this one is too good to pass up. She and the family will be moving to Portugal in time for the new school year in September.”

It has been said that Madonna has already bought a luxurious £5million apartment for herself and her children, and she also reportedly plans to enrol her kids in Lisbon’s exclusive £30,000-a-year French Lycee school.

The move will put Madonna’s singing career on the back-burner, but an insider insisted that Madge is more dedicated to being a good mother than being a superstar.

The source explained: “Madonna lost her own mother very young and her greatest ambition in life is to be the mother she never had.

“However much you might criticise her, she has always wanted what is best for her kids.”

Madonna’s three youngest children, Mercy, Esther and Stella, will also move to Portugal.

It is expected that Madonna and her four youngest children, David, 11-year-old Mercy James, and newly adopted twins, four-year-olds Esther and Stella, will move to Lisbon over the summer, with her eldest daughter, 20-year-old Lourdes, remaining in New York to pursue a modelling career.

Her 16-year-old son, Rocco Ritchie, has moved in with his dad, director Guy Ritchie, in London following a high-profile custody battle last year.
