First look as Vic Reeves makes his Coronation Street debut

Earlier this year it was announced that 58-year-old comic Vic Reeves is to fulfil his lifelong dream of appearing in ITV soap Coronation Street after bosses approached him about joining the cast.

Now Coronation Street have shared an exciting first look at Vic’s character, shopkeeper Colin, as filming gets underway.

Sharing a photo of the star on the show’s famous cobbles, Corrie wrote: “Welcome to Coronation Street Jim Moir! #Corrie #FirstDay #Colin”.

The caption confused some fans as Vic has opted to act under his real name, Jim Moir, instead of his famous stage name.

It is understood that Vic will appear in at least 20 episodes of the soap opera and will feature heavily alongside characters Mary Taylor, played by Patti Clare, and Norris Cole, played by Malcolm Hebden.

Speaking in a statement about his new role, Vic shared: “I’ve been a lifelong fan of Corrie. In fact, I think I saw the very first one. I try not to miss any episodes.

“I’m really looking forward to acting in Corrie. It’s a real thrill to be part of a British Institution.”

A source added: “Vic’s over the moon. It’s his favourite show and it’s always been his dream to act in it one day.

“He’s made up and can’t wait to get stuck in.

“He always said he would prefer not to do a cameo role playing himself so to get an actual part is just amazing. It’s just what he wanted.”

Vic isn’t the first comedian to land a spot in Coronation Street, with Les Dennis previously starring in the soap as Michael Rodewell between 2014 and 2016, and Paddy McGuinness and Peter Kay both having cameos.
