Coronation Street stars' salaries revealed - who comes out on top?

Yesterday, the salaries of the top earners over at EastEnders were revealed, with many being left stunned that new kid on the block, Danny Dyer, was earning a lot more than his veteran co-stars, such as June Brown and Adam Woodyatt.

Today, we have been given an insight into the bank balances of Coronation Street’s biggest stars – and whilst we’re certainly not turning our noses up at the huge pay cheques, they’re definitively tiny compared to their BBC One rivals.

Compared to Danny Dyer’s £400,000 a year for the role of Mick Carter, ITV’s top earners take home half of that, with William Roache, Barbara Knox and Jack P. Shepherd earning £200,000 a year.

William is no doubt being rewarded for his commitment to the show, with the actor playing Ken Barlow since Coronation Street began way back in 1960, similarly, Barbara joined as Rita Tanner just four years later.

Meanwhile, Jack is incredibly popular in his role as lovable rogue David Platt, and it is thought that he is one of the only younger actors on the soap to receive such a huge payout.

Just below the trio of top dogs comes Michael Le Vell, who was reportedly handed a £170,000 deal back in January to play Kevin Webster for another year, with Kym Marsh and Simon Gregson raking in £150,000 a year for their roles as Michelle Connor and Steve McDonald respectively.

Earlier this year, Helen Flanagan made her much-anticipated return to the ITV soap, with producers reportedly offering the actress a whopping £30,000 to reprise her role of Rosie Webster for three months.

However, following the success of Rosie’s comeback, this was upped to £120,000 for an entire year.

Meanwhile, as well as Danny Dyer’s huge salary, we also learned what some of his EastEnders’ co-stars earned too, with Steve McFadden apparently receiving £310,000 a year to play Phil Mitchell, June Brown raking in £300,000 a year for her role as Dot Branning and Adam Woodyatt bringing home £260,000 a year to play Ian Beale.

There might be a huge difference in salaries between the two shows, but one thing’s for sure: soaps are a seriously lucrative business.
