Krispy Kreme just came out with new mini doughnuts — here's how to get them for free

Many people mark a new year with plans to eat better and make healthier choices, and that often involves enjoying treats in moderation or trying to eat smaller portions.

And following a year where everything felt very strange and different, many learned to appreciate small victories wherever they could. It was those mini moments of joy that helped make everything else bearable.

Krispy Kreme's new limited-edition Dessert Minis are just that — tiny doughnuts that are meant to represent a small pleasure. They will now include four dessert-inspired treats: Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Lemon Bar, Strawberry Cheesecake and Birthday Cake Mini Doughnuts.

To kick off this near treat, the chain is making Wednesdays into “Win-days” for the remainder of January, offering a sweet deal on the mini sweet treat.

“Coming off 2020, celebrating any and all wins – including small ones – is a way we can keep each other’s spirits up,” said Krispy Kreme Chief Marketing Officer Dave Skena in a media statement. “Our Mini Dessert Doughnut Collection is a great way to celebrate the little wins to bring out the big smiles that keep us going.”

In early 2020, Krispy Kreme first debuted mini versions of its most popular doughnuts: Chocolate Iced, Chocolate Iced with Sprinkles, Strawberry Iced and Original Glazed.

“Too many people bail on their New Year’s resolutions before they are even halfway through January. That’s no good. Sometimes a mini-indulgence, or cheat, is all you need to help you stick with it. So, we miniaturized our most popular doughnuts. A little Krispy Kreme goes a long way,” Skena said in a statement at the time.

At the launch of the original mini doughnuts, part of the excitement was that each mini has about half the calories of its larger counterpart. For example, the mini Original Glazed comes in at 90 calories, while a regular one is 190 calories; the mini Chocolate Iced is 120 calories, compared to 240 calories for a full size; the mini Chocolate Iced with Sprinkles is 130 calories, and it's 250 calories for the big one; and the mini Strawberry Iced with Sprinkles is 130 calories, compared with 210 calories for the standard size.

Can the same be said for the new Dessert Minis? Well, the Mini Strawberry Cheesecake Doughnut comes in at 120 calories and the Mini Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough comes in at 140 calories, which has them around the same calorie level as the other mini doughnuts.

None of these new doughnuts are exactly a health food, but if you're craving the taste and texture of a doughnut but don't want to eat a full-sized confection, the new offering is a pretty sweet way to scale down.
