Woman's shocking discovery after taking ancestry DNA test

A woman who was gifted an ancestry DNA kit says she has been left with more questions than answers after she received her results back.

American woman Katye Snow told her story on TikTok and explained how she discovered the man she grew up with and called Dad wasn’t her biological father.

“A few months ago, my lovely brother got me one of those cool ancestry genealogy tests,” Ms Snow starts the video.

“And because my father’s adopted and my mother doesn’t know her real father I thought it was really cool to figure out my genealogy maybe find out some medical issues I don’t know about.

“This morning at 7am I got my results back and come to find out, there are a lot more questions than answers.”

Sharing her test results in the video, she showed her real father’s identity - a man by the name of Willie.

“Now that’s a surprise to me because I always thought my father was my father.

“But after speaking to both my mother and father.. nope! That’s my dad,” she says, referring to Willie.

“It’s crazy to think that this guy is my father. After a very stressful morning I sent him a message and I guess we’ll see if he says anything.”

The video, filmed on September 9, has been viewed almost 400,000 times and spurred so much interest, Ms Snow continued to update her followers about her story.

She explained that when she asked her mother about who her real dad was, her mum initially feigned ignorance before coming clean.

“My parents broke up just before my mum found out she was pregnant with me. Apparently they were sleeping together though and my mum was sleeping with another guy as well,” Ms Snow said.

“It was very short lived. My parents were only broken up for a short while.”

When her mum found out she was pregnant, she never truly knew who the father was and decided to tell her partner.

“They talked about it. My Dad said no matter what, I was his kid. He never asked for a DNA test. I guess it wasn’t an option for a poor family in the 90s.”

Last weekend, for the first time, Ms Snow met her biological dad and her little sister.

They visited a zoo together and Ms Snow shared photos of their meet on her Instagram page.

“2 weeks ago if you told me that my dad wasn’t my dad. And that this man was. I would have never believed it,” she wrote.

“It was a very emotional, but amazingly fun day yesterday and I’m so happy that I have more people to call my family.”
