Hamburger And Hot Dog Buns Are Being Recalled Due To Listeria Concerns

A recall including select hamburger buns and hot dog buns was announced by the Food & Drug Administration yesterday after Hostess Brands voluntarily recalled some of their products. The concern is that these products may be contaminated with salmonella or listeria which could lead to varying health risks.

The issue was brought to Hostess Brands' attention after the company's co-manufacturer, Best Harvest Bakeries, found out about the issue through their environmental monitoring program. No illnesses linked to the issue have been reported to date but the recall was issued out of an abundance of caution.

Affected products are limited to the Hostess Soft White Hamburger Buns and the Soft White Hot Dog Buns which were sold to distributors, convenience stores, and other retail stores throughout the United States. A specific list of the item codes, batch numbers, and best by dates is listed on the FDA website.

No other Hostess breads or baked goods are affected. Listeria and Salmonella can cause particularly harmful infections in young children, elderly individuals, or those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include fever, severe headaches, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and vomiting.

If you happen to have the Hostess Hot Dog Buns Or Hamburger Buns in your possession, check their codes and best by dates and dispose of them immediately if you are concerned. Customers can return the impacted products to the place of purchase for a full refund and can reach out to Hostess at 1-800-483-7253 if they have any questions regarding the announcement.
