This 'Real Housewives' star travelled to Puerto Rico with four private planes full of emergency supplies

Whilst President Donald Trump has been causing outrage on Twitter with a series of controversial tweets about the crisis in Puerto Rico, Real Housewives Of New York star Bethenny Frankel has been getting things done, chartering four private planes full of emergency supplies to the island.

Puerto Rico has been left without electricity since Hurricane Maria hit last month, with the devastation being described as a ‘humanitarian disaster’ by officials.

Celebrities have come out in force to donate money to the citizens, who are also struggling for basic necessities, such as food and water – with rapper Pitbull even using his own private jet to transfer cancer patients from the island to America so that they can continue with their life-saving treatment.

Now Bethenny has won praise for travelling to the country in order to directly help those in need, using a combination of her own money and donations to her charity, B Strong, to fund the trip.

The reality TV star and her team have traveled to areas around San Juan to give assistance and distribute more than £20,000 of medical, food and water supplies, such as insulin, nappies and clothes, as well as cash and gift cards to residents who have lost everything.

Transporting all of the supplies over via multiple private jets, Bethenny, who is currently recovering from skin cancer removal surgery, has then used the planes to fly Puerto Ricans in need of medical assistance back to America so that they can get help.

As well as helping residents, Bethenny has also been documenting the destruction that Hurricane Maria caused, showing her followers who their generous donations are helping.

Speaking to People, the star shared: “This is a forgotten island.

“People have been living on their roofs for 13 days. It is like nothing I have ever seen. People’s entire homes and cars are immersed in mud.”

She continued: “We pulled onto a street with a truck of basic necessities, and you would have thought I was giving out diamonds. What struck me was people politely waiting in line patiently.

“They are so proud. I gave them cash cards in envelopes, and they were emotional yet still proud. Their faith is intact.”

Bethenny also hit out at Trump’s claims that America was helping Puerto Rico following the natural disaster, saying in an Instagram video: “They’re not getting the help. Whatever anybody’s telling us, they’re not getting the help at all.”

The businesswoman’s trip comes shortly after she travelled to Mexico City to provide aid for those affected by a devastating earthquake that struck the country last month, killing 350 people.
