Hey Cleveland, you can get LeBron James Cavaliers jerseys for half price now
Dick’s Sporting Goods is holding a fire sale for Cleveland’s next LeBron James jersey-burning festival.
Maybe.
The sporting goods store has put all of its Cavaliers-themed James apparel on sale for half price, including his jerseys, shirseys and weird socks. Wine and gold basketballs, too. Even the Lego figurines of LeBron in a Cavs jersey are 50 percent off. (You’ll be glad to know you can still get a full-price wall decal featuring LeBron, Kyrie Irving and Matthew Dellavedova — the whole 2016 championship team.)
The NBA Store and Fanatics are still selling full-price LeBron jerseys, at least until The Decision 3.0, so maybe Dick’s is just clearing old inventory for a fresh batch of Cleveland No. 23 jerseys. Or maybe they’re trying to unload them now before they have to make room for the Los Angeles Lakers jerseys in a few weeks, when these might be worth nothing more than kindling to the people of Cleveland.
Are other high-profile NBA free agents’ jerseys for sale?
Nope. Dick’s is selling Kevin Durant, Paul George, Chris Paul, DeMarcus Cousins and DeAndre Jordan jerseys for full price. This policy apparently only applies to LeBron James, whose jersey ranked second on the NBA’s most popular list behind only Stephen Curry. And, no, Curry’s jerseys are not for sale.
Wait, where is Dick’s Sporting Goods based?
Dick’s started in Binghamton, New York (with a pretty crazy story), and is now headquartered in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania, outside Pittsburgh, which means it’s actually closer to Cleveland than it is Philadelphia, but I’m still not ruling out this being a troll job by Knicks or 76ers fans in Dick’s family. Another company did just fly three banners over the NBA draft in New York to recruit LeBron to Philly.
And don’t worry, Cleveland. Kevin Love Cavaliers jerseys are still full price. Unfortunately, they don’t carry J.R. Smith jerseys, because I’m sure those would be a fiery-hot item among Cavaliers fans.
