Claire Foy defends Adam Sandler following 'awkward' Graham Norton interview

At the weekend, Hollywood actor Adam Sandler sparked outrage when he repeatedly placed his hand on Claire Foy’s leg as they both appeared on The Graham Norton Show together.

The actress appeared to be uncomfortable by the gesture, removing his hand on more than one occasion as Adam’s co-star, Emma Thompson, seemingly glared at his hand disapprovingly.

Now, in spite of the online backlash, Claire’s spokesperson has spoken out in defence of the incident, insisting that she was not “offended” by his actions.

The spokesperson said in a statement: “We don’t believe anything was intended by Adam’s gesture and it has caused no offence to Claire.”

Adam’s rep had already spoken out, previously describing the touch as “a friendly gesture”, and referencing a similar encounter that Adam had with actor Dustin Hoffman on the Jimmy Fallon show earlier this month.

The incident came just weeks after over 50 high-profile actresses came forward to accuse acclaimed film producer Harvey Weinstein of sexual assault and even rape, with the allegations drawing a light on the issue of systematic sexual harassment in Hollywood.

Emma Thompson, Adam’s ‘The Meyerowitz Stories’ co-star, has led the outrage in the wake of the Weinstein scandal, previously saying that the high-powered movie mogul was “at the top of the ladder of is a system of harassment, and belittling, and bullying, and interference” within the industry, adding: “I didn’t know about these things, but they don’t surprise me at all, and they’re endemic to the system anyway.

“Do they have to all be as bad as him to make it count? Does it only count if you really have done it to loads and loads and loads of women? Or does it count if you do it to one woman once? I think the latter.”

Weinstein has denied all allegations of non-consensual sexual conduct.
