Stormzy blasts 'paigon' Theresa May as Jeremy Corbyn presents him with GQ award

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn was the surprise man of the hour at last night’s GQ awards, with the politician presenting grime artist Stormzy with his Solo Artist of the Year award.

Stormzy, who has always been a vocal supporter of Corbyn and was part of the #Grime4Corbyn campaign ahead of this year’s election, used his winning speech to slam Prime Minister Theresa May.

Speaking to the crowd, the chuffed star said: “It’s so incredible to be here with everyone… We’ve got Jeremy Corbyn!

“I do want to use this to say that Theresa May is a paigon and you know what we’re doing right now… Trust me.”

In urban slang, ‘paigon’ is a derogatory term to describe a backstabber or a ‘snake’.

Stormzy went on to thank God, his mother and his team for the award and later posed for pictures backstage with Jeremy.

Jeremy himself took to social media to praise Stormzy after the show, writing on Facebook: “Tonight, I was honoured to present Stormzy with the British GQ Solo Artist Of The Year award.

“This last year we have seen dramatic political events across the world. And against that backdrop we have seen the emergence of incredible, powerful artists.

“None more so than Stormzy who – instead of signing to a major record label – has used his own label to top the charts and change the face of music in this country.

“He is one of London’s most inspiring young men, encouraging his listeners to vote, pray and speak openly about mental health.

“Whether speaking out against racism or supporting the victims of Grenfell, he’s remained true to his roots and committed to his values throughout.”

Stormzy retweeted Jeremy’s touching message to his popular Twitter page, adding: “Legend, thank you” and the heart emoji.

Unfortunately for Jeremy, he did not win GQ’s Politician of the Year award, which went to London Mayor Sadiq Khan for the second year running.
