Strictly Come Dancing 2017: First celebrity contestant announced

The countdown to Strictly Come Dancing is officially on, with the first celebrity contestant being announced earlier this morning.

The Saturdays singer Mollie King is the first star to join the line-up, with the 30 year old announcing the news live on Nick Grimshaw’s BBC Radio 1 breakfast show earlier today.

Speaking out, Mollie shared: “It’s something that I always said I wanted to do. I’ve always watched it with my family and it looks so fun.

“I’m going to be giving it my all. I’m very competitive so watch out, other contestants.”

And Mollie might be able to get some advice from her Saturdays bandmate Frankie Bridge, who took part in the BBC One show back in 2014.

The singer continued: “Frankie is the only other [The Saturdays singer] I’ve told.

“She was so excited. She was driving when I told her and she had to pull over.”

Speaking to the BBC previously, Mollie added: “I can’t actually believe I’m lucky enough to be taking part in it this year.

“I’m literally so excited to learn latin and ballroom dancing, and of course I can’t wait to get into the sequins too.

“It’s going to be a lot of hard work but I’m ready for the challenge.”

Other celebrities rumoured to be joining Mollie on the Strictly dance floor include comic Brian Conley, EastEnders’ Samantha Womack, and Bros star Matt Goss.
