The Kardashian family are the latest batch of celebrities to reach out to victims of storm Harvey, with the group donating half a million dollars to the relief effort.

Kim, Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian, alongside their mum, Kris Jenner, and half-sisters, Kendall and Kylie Jenner, made their pledges on Twitter and urged their followers to give whatever they can to help those who have been affected by the devastating tropical storm in Texas.

Kim added: “It’s heartbreaking to see the devastation in Texas. Text the word HARVEY to 90999 or donate to @RedCross: http://www.redcross.org”, also retweeting various public service announcements – including one that offered to take in and shelter animals in the Houston area.

Storm Harvey has killed at least 30 people and has ruined the homes of thousands of others, with 19,000 people already in shelters and thousands more expected to flee the area.

Earlier this week, comic Kevin Hart set his fellow celebrities a challenge by donating $50,000 to the relief effort and calling on other stars to match him.

Jennifer Lopez and DJ Khaled each pledged $25,000 to the cause, with Hart’s fund quickly reaching the $1million mark.

Beyonce has also reached out to her home town, writing on Instagram: “Texas, you are in my prayers.”

She followed up with a statement to the Houston Chronicle, adding that she was working closely with her team and her Houston pastor “to implement a plan to help as many as we can.”

Meanwhile, British band Coldplay cancelled their scheduled show in Houston on Friday due to the impending storm and wrote a new song for the city called: “Houston #1”, which they performed at their Miami concert on Monday.
