EastEnders' Aaron Sidwell to leave soap after 'explosive' Steven Beale storyline

It has been confirmed that EastEnders’ Aaron Sidwell is set to leave the BBC One soap in the coming months, with producers promising that Steven Beale’s exit will be nothing short of explosive.

Aaron is currently embroiled in a controversial storyline after Steven lied about having a brain tumour in a desperate and manipulative bid to keep his girlfriend, Lauren Branning.

Viewers were shocked last week when Lauren’s dad, Max Branning, found out that Steven wasn’t telling the truth about his illness, but rather than out the disturbing lie he told Lauren that Steven has just three months to live.

This led to fans speculating that Max could bump off Steven in three months time – a theory that has been fuelled after the show announced Aaron’s upcoming departure from the soap.

Confirming the news in a statement, the BBC said: “Aaron Sidwell is part of one of the big upcoming storylines and we can confirm, following dramatic scenes to be aired later this summer, he will be leaving the show.

“We wish Aaron all the very best for the future.”

Aaron has since announced that he will be taking on the role of Fiyero in the 2018 UK and Ireland tour of musical ‘Wicked’ after his EastEnders’ stint, sharing the news on his popular Twitter page and adding: “I couldn’t be happier.”

Aaron’s departure comes days after the young cast of EastEnders hit the headlines after they accidentally revealed that one of them was leaving during a party on social media.

Eagle-eyed fans spotted a ‘Sorry You’re Leaving’ banner in the background of one of Aaron’s Instagram snaps, with the stars who play Ben Mitchell, Lauren Branning, Keegan Baker, Louise Mitchell, Bex Fowler, Shakil Kazemi, and Johnny Carter also in attendance.

It is now believed that this could have been Aaron’s leaving party, marking the end of the road for Steven Beale.

Aaron first joined EastEnders in 2007, leaving a year later before returning as the troubled character in 2016.
