WATCH: Coldplay pay tribute to Chester Bennington with piano ballad of Linkin Park's 'Crawling'
Coldplay moved concertgoers to tears last night when they paid touching tribute to Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington on the first night of their new tour.
Chris Martin and co. gave a moving piano rendition of the rock band’s hit song ‘Crawling’ at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium, with Chris stripping back the nu-metal song to a simple melancholy ballad.
According to fans, Chris dedicated the performance to “anyone who’s missing someone” and even restarted the song after he felt that he messed up the intro because he wanted to make sure that it was perfect.
The performance was widely praised by both Coldplay and Linkin Park fans, with Chester’s bandmate, Mike Shinoda, sharing footage of Chris’s rendition on social media, writing: “Thank you @coldplay, it sounded beautiful.”
Chester Bennington killed himself on July 20th at the age of 41, with the rocker being laid to rest at a private service on Sunday in California.
Linkin Park’s bassist, Dave ‘Phoenix’ Farrell, previously paid tribute to his friend in a series of tweets, sharing: “A huge part of Chester’s legacy will be the memories we hold of him in our hearts.
“He was an enthusiastic, playful father. An honest, and passionate musician, and a loyal friend. I’ve been touched to see memorials that have been held worldwide.”
The group have since launched a suicide prevention website containing useful links and helplines for anybody who is suffering with mental health issues.
