Yahoo News Grenfell Fire: Lily Allen offers 'beds and tea' as celebrities respond to West London blaze
Lily Allen has reached out to those who have been affected by the Grenfell fire, offering a bed and tea to those who are in need.
Fire chiefs have confirmed that there have been a “number of fatalities” after Grenfell Tower in Latimer Road went up in flames just before 1am today [14 June].
Around 200 firefighters attempted to tackle the blaze, with 40 fire engines attending the scene, more than 50 of the tower’s residents have been taken to hospitals across London.
The London Fire Brigade have stressed that they don’t yet know the cause of the fire, and although they have not confirmed the number of people who have lost their lives in the tragedy, they have said that there have been multiple deaths.
Celebrities were quick to take to social media to pay their respects to those who were caught up in last night’s blaze, with many attempting to help the victims in any way that they can.
Singer Lily Allen lives close to Glenfell Tower and was keen to offer her support.
Tweeting through the night, the star wrote: “I’ve never seen anything like it in my life, praying people got out okay, woke[n] up by [the] sirens.”
She later added: “A lot of people without homes here tonight. Not a lot of info. If anyone needs a bed or a lift or tea, tweet me and I’ll follow back.”
Lily went on to share a list of items that victims who have lost their homes and possessions in the fire need, asking her followers to drop off toiletries, sanitary products, portable phone chargers, toys and clothes to Clements Church in Kensington.
Sam Smith also paid his respects, writing: “Horrifying news to wake up to this morning in London. My thoughts and prayers are with all the victims.”
Dermot O’Leary paid tribute to emergency services for their quick response, tweeting: “Horrific scenes in West London, thoughts and prayers to all. What a sense of community and how incredible are our emergency services? Proud.”
Meanwhile, an outraged Piers Morgan demanded that “heads roll” for the blaze, writing: “This fire is a scandalous disgrace. Heads must roll for it. Should NOT be happening in modern Britain.”
He continued to blast claims that residents of Grenfell Tower had been warning the council that the block was unsafe for years, calling the incident a “massive safety failure”.
