Mel B 'has just £961 in her bank account after squandering fortune'

Mel B’s estranged husband, Stephen Belafonte, has accused the former Spice Girl of squandering her fortune, leaving her with a reported £961 in her bank account.

The former couple arrived in court in Los Angeles on Friday in order to fight over their finances and custody of their five-year-old daughter Madison, and this is where Stephen’s lawyer made the shocking claims.

According to the Daily Mail, lawyer Grace Jamra told the court: “Their lifestyle was extravagant and affluent.

“She wiped out all her Spice Girls money, approximately $50 million if not more.”

Mel’s lawyer, Jacalyn Davis, also confirmed that the pair have outstanding tax debts, explaining: “They never had money at the end of the year to pay their taxes.

“All their community income was being spent and then some. In this marriage that would be Miss Brown’s income from the Spice Girls. Prickly things happen when the IRS (Internal Revenue Service) doesn’t get paid.”

A source added to The Mirror: “Mel is an international superstar, still working as a judge on America’s Got Talent, but she only has a small amount of money in the bank, according to Companies House.

“People may be very surprised.”

Mel and Stephen first tied the knot in June 2007, with Mel filing for divorce in March this year citing “irreconcilable differences”.

The star was later granted a restraining order after she accused Stephen of physically and sexually abusing her, something that Stephen strongly denies.

Stephen currently has supervised access to his and Mel’s daughter but he was denied access to Mel’s 10-year-old daughter Angel, who was born three months before she married Stephen but is her daughter with Hollywood actor Eddie Murphy.

Neither party commented following their court appearance on Friday.
