The former X Factor judge previously revealed that she used to spend time in the apartment block as a child, writing on Instagram: “This is my neighbourhood I can’t believe this is happening.

“My prayers are with everybody involved my heart is beating so fast.

“I used to play in that block – I want to do all I can do to help.”

She later added on Twitter: “Shocked and devastated to hear this terrible news. My heart goes out to everyone affected by this horrific tragedy in west London.”

At least 12 people have died and many others are in serious condition in hospital after the apartment block in North Kensington caught fire in the early hours of yesterday [14 June] morning.

Those who managed to escape the blaze have lost their homes and all of their possessions, and are currently being supported by donations from members of the public.

Rita isn’t the only celebrity to offer a helping hand in the wake of the tragedy, with Adele keeping a low profile as she visited the scene last night, offering comfort and support to emotional residents of Grenfell Tower.

Previously, Lily Allen offered her nearby home for “beds and tea” and celebrity chef Jamie Oliver revealed that his nearby restaurant, Jamie’s Italian, will be providing free food and refuge for victims of the blaze.

The cause of the fire is yet to be confirmed, but residents of the block had been publicly telling the council that Grenfell Tower is “unsafe” for years.
