Yahoo News Harry Styles phones fan who was hospitalised in Manchester terrorist attack
It has been revealed that Harry Styles took the time to phone one of the injured victims of the Manchester terrorist attack after hearing that she is a huge fan of his.
Freya Lewis, 14, was leaving Ariana Grande’s concert on Monday 22 May with her best friend, Nell Jones, when suicide bomber Salman Abedi detonated a homemade nail bomb near one of the exits at the venue, killing 22 and seriously injuring several others.
Tragically, Nell died at the scene but Freya was rescued by a heroic couple who took her outside and began giving her CPR.
The teen was rushed to hospital and spent 10-and-a-half hours in surgery as well as a second operation to remove shrapnel.
Whilst in surgery, Freya’s older sister Georgia launched an appeal to cheer her up, campaigning to get One Direction star Harry’s attention, writing in a Facebook post: “So my sister is currently in surgery having herself mended after the Manchester bombings and I need to do something to cheer her up when she comes out.
“As I’m pretty sure most of you know my sister is the biggest Harry Styles fan I’m pretty sure in the world. All she does every second of every day is talk about how much she loves him (her email includes harrstylescrazy for goodness sake).
“I don’t expect this to work but if this post is shared enough times we can see if we can get Harry’s attention. All I want is for my little sister to be happy so please share for Harry Styles’ biggest fan. I love you so much Freya, get better soon.”
Last night, just five days later, Georgia took to her Facebook page again – this time to reveal that the star had phoned Freya in hospital.
She told her Facebook friends: “Cannot believe it, Mr Harry Styles just rang my dad. Hearing his voice has been a great lift and Freya has totally woken up and is completely in shock that he rang.
“They told each other that she loved him!!! [sic] Thank you everyone for everything!!! I love you all!!!!
“Everyone is jumping for joy in the PICU unit. I’m so happy right now, I have no words. Reluctantly, I will admit it, I love you Harry!!!!!!!! [sic]”.
An update blog running on Freya’s school website provided more details of the experience, revealing: “We realise that the earlier blog ended on a somewhat downbeat note. Things have somewhat moved on over the last few hours and we felt that we had to share the latest developments with everyone.
“Firstly, Freya came around enough from sedation to look at her dad, blow him a kiss and smile. Then dad cried. ‘What could surpass that?’ I know you are thinking.
“Secondly, the phone rang, and it was Harry Styles. Freya woke up, Harry said he loved her, she said she loved him, then dad said he loved him!!
“The PICU unit at Manchester Childrens Hospital has just been given a lift like you can not imagine! Harry, we salute you sir, Holmes Chapel is very proud of you!!!!”
Freya is currently a student at Harry’s old secondary school, Holmes Chapel Comprehensive and Sixth Form in Cheshire.
The star’s kind gesture comes days after Ariana Grande revealed that she will be returning to Manchester to hold a benefit concert for those affected by the terrorist attack in the coming weeks.
Ariana was left “traumatised” and “in hysterics” following the attack on her fans last week but is focusing on the victims, revealing that she will be spending time with those who were caught up in the attack in a heartfelt statement that was posted on social media.
