Angie Best forced to apologise after criticising children's Manchester attack tribute

When Angie Best took part in Celebrity Big Brother last year, it was clear to see that she wasn’t afraid to say what she thinks – no matter who it may offend.

However, the star crossed a line when she took to her Twitter page to criticise a school’s tribute to the Manchester terrorist attack victims, slamming them for not being “environmentally friendly”.

Angie’s remark sparked outrage.

Angie was forced to backtrack and apologise when her harsh tweet was slammed by her followers, with the animal rights activist eventually removing the offending tweet from her profile.

It all started when a student tweeted a video of her school releasing balloons in memory of the victims of last Monday’s attack, the schoolgirl wrote: “Our school set of balloons in memories of the people who have been taken too early.

“RIP angels, sleep tight #PrayForManchester.”

The star deleted the tweet but not before it was screenshot.

Unimpressed Angie retweeted the video and added: “Really, you couldn’t think of something more environmentally friendly” alongside the ‘eye-rolling’ emoji.

Needless to say, this triggered a social media backlash like no other, with many of Angie’s followers tweeting their disapproval of her tweet:

Angie eventually apologised for her outburst, hinting that she didn’t realise the video was in honour of the Manchester attack victims.

She wrote: “Of course my heart is broken for everyone affected by the murders in Manchester, I can’t even begin to imagine the pain.

“I acted in haste & didn’t read the tweet fully. I’d just seen a post of a dead bird killed by the plastic it had eaten & reacted.”

The schoolgirl who posted the original video did not respond to Angie’s criticism, but did retweet a news article about the incident.

It has been one week since 22 people lost their lives and countless others were left with serious injuries after suicide bomber Salman Abedi detonated a homemade nail bomb at one of Manchester Arena’s exits at the end of an Ariana Grande concert.

Ariana will return to Manchester in the coming weeks.

Since the attack, many celebrities have paid their respects to the victims and even directly reached out to those who were affected by the blast.

Ariana Grande was understandably left “traumatised” by the attack but is focusing on the victims and plans to hold a benefit concert in Manchester in the coming weeks, where she also hopes to spend time with her fans who were caught up in the terror attack.
