Demi Lovato awkwardly reveals that she wasn't asked to perform at Ariana Grande's benefit concert

Yesterday afternoon, Ariana Grande took to social media to announce that she will be returning to Manchester this weekend to headline a benefit concert in aid of the victims of last week’s terrorist attack at Manchester Arena.

The US singer was left “traumatised” and “in hysterics” when suicide bomber Salman Abedi detonated a homemade nail bomb near one of the exits of the venue after Ariana’s sold-out concert, killing 22 people and leaving countless others with serious injuries.

Ariana jetted home to America the morning after the attack, tweeting that she felt “broken” and was “so, so sorry” for what had happened.

The star was inundated with support from her celebrity pals, with the likes of Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato publicly reaching out to offer their condolences and comforting words.

A few days later, Ariana released a heartfelt statement, which revealed that she planned to return to the British city in order to spend time with the victims of the attack and also hold a benefit concert to raise money for those affected, and the A-list line-up certainly doesn’t disappoint.

The concert will take place on Sunday.

Calling in her host of famous friends, it was revealed yesterday that One Love Manchester will take place at Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester on Sunday [4 June] with Justin Bieber, Coldplay, Katy Perry, Niall Horan, Miley Cyrus, Take That, Usher, and Pharrell Williams joining Ariana to perform.

Needless to say, some fans wondered why Demi Lovato wasn’t included in the line-up considering she had been so vocal in her support of Ariana since the terrorist attack took place, and when questioned things got a little bit awkward.

Responding to an Instagram post with the caption: “@ArianaGrande Why will not Demi (@DDLovato) participate? She sent beautiful messages of support. [SIC]”, Demi replied: “‘Cause I wasn’t asked.”

Awkward…

Yikes.

Demi’s no-nonsense reply sparked backlash from some of Ariana’s fans, with the singer accused of coming across as “bitter”, however, she later clarified that she didn’t mean for her remark to seem like a dig.

Replying to another fan on Instagram, the singer wrote: “The only reason why I answered is so people understand that I didn’t turn it down. I’d hate for anyone to think that I said no.

“I would’ve loved to help but I wasn’t asked, that’s all.”

Those who attended Ariana’s Manchester concert last Monday [22 May] will be able to attend Sunday’s show for free, for all others, tickets go on sale tomorrow.
