Ellen DeGeneres has officially lived out every interviewer’s worst nightmare after she forgot one very, very big piece of information about her celebrity guest, Katy Perry.
We mean, seriously, the second-hand embarrassment is real.
Katy was on Ellen’s US chat show yesterday afternoon to promote her upcoming album, and Ellen decided to play a game called ‘Will You Perry Me?’ with the singer.
Before the game even got started, Ellen put her foot in it when she completely forgot that Katy had once been married before.
And for any other novices who may be reading, the star tied the knot with British comic Russell Brand back in October 2010 before divorcing in July 2012.
When the game’s title was announced, Katy dramatically joked: “Do I have to get married…. AGAIN?!”
Ellen quipped back: “You were not married.”
Undeterred, Katy responded: “I was, when I was 25.”
Still not twigging Katy’s high-profile romance with Russell, she asked the star: “Were you?”
Katy thankfully made light of the situation, replying: “Yes, it’s been a long time, honey. No wrinkles, no lines”, and when Ellen asked Katy who she was once married to, Katy quietly whispered back: “His name was Russell Brand…”
Somehow Ellen managed to style the whole thing out, simply stating the obvious as she replied “I forgot about Russell” as Katy pointed out that the TV host had even gifted her wedding presents on that very show.
D’oh.
Don’t worry, Ellen – we all have off days.
The mishap comes shortly after Russell opened up about his and Katy’s doomed marriage, admitting that Katy’s busy schedule left it difficult for them to maintain a healthy relationship.
He explained: “Katy was obviously very, very occupied and very busy. I was [also] occupied and busy. Not to the same degree, I recognise.
“Obviously the marriage didn’t last for a very long time and I think that is to do with the undulating nature of fame.
“I still feel very warm towards her. I feel like when I hear about her or see her, I think ‘Aw there’s that person. There’s that person in the world.’
“But I sort of recognise it as a part of my life that was for a clearly delineated piece of time.”
Since their split, Katy briefly dated actor Orlando Bloom but is currently single, meanwhile, Russell welcomed a daughter, Mabel, with his girlfriend, Laura Gallacher, last November.
