WATCH Britain's Got Talent: Simon Cowell branded 'sexist' following 'anti-feminist' comments
Simon Cowell has come under fire following “sexist” comments towards Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalist Josephine Lee in last night’s show.
Following an empowering and feminist performance, which earned a standing ovation from judge David Walliams, Simon criticised Josephine for “going on” about the fact that she’s a girl, even reducing her entire act down to a pair of sexy legs – literally.
Josephine, who is a magician, provided a powerful commentary to her trick, which explained how she wanted to “re-write the story of females in magic” as she criticised the culture of the woman on stage being nothing more than a glamorous assistant.
Complete with a pair of fake legs, Josephine explained: “As a grown woman I want to rewrite the story of females in magic.
“It’s a story that’s been full of injustice for women, powerful women who have been mistaken for witches.
“After all that struggle, what did we become next? Just a pair of legs bringing on a table. Our personalities rendered invisible. the word assistant suggests inferiority.”
And whilst David, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon were full of praise for the hopeful, Simon was less than impressed and especially didn’t like the femist voiceover.
He complained: “Everything was great apart from the really annoying commentary. There was part of me that was like, ‘I get it, you’re a girl, blah blah blah blah blah.
“I get it, you don’t want to be the magician’s assistant, you want to be the magician, but after a while, it’s like, ‘This is beginning to irritate me.’
“I thought what you did was really clever, but I still don’t think you have the showmanship.”
The father-of-one went on to add: “I like the legs!”, to which David quipped back: “We’ve got a pure feminist on the panel!”
It wasn’t long before outraged viewers took to social media to blast Simon for his “sexist” comments:
Simon Cowell has very little respect for women. #BGT

it's 2017 and simon cowell literally just said the only thing he liked about a woman on #BGT was her legs and not her feminist message. ????????????????

Neither Simon or Josephine have publicly commented on Simon’s remark.
