EastEnders' Adam Woodyatt admits he stopped for ice cream while running London Marathon

Most people who run the London Marathon are keen to get the best running time possible, putting their earphones in, heads down, and steadily running the 26-mile route.

However, one of Sunday’s runners couldn’t care less about how long it took him to run the marathon, even stopping for an ice cream en route.

Adam completed the run in about seven hours.

Yes, actor Adam Woodyatt, who plays Ian Beale in BBC One soap EastEnders, has opened up about his marathon experience, admitting that he stopped for a treat after undergoing a no-carb diet in preparation for the run.

Speaking after completing the marathon, Adam explained: “Somewhere around Poplar, might have been Docklands, I don’t know, we stopped and got an ice cream.”

We never thought that we’d say this, but Ian Beale is a man after our own hearts.

Adam went on to heap praise onto his 18-year-old son, Sam Woodyatt, who also ran the marathon just months after he suffered a broken pelvis and brain injuries after being run over by a car.

Sam was put in an induced coma for several days after the accident and had to learn to walk again.

Adam told the Press Association: “He got hit by a car back in September, the London Air Ambulance came out to him and put him in an induced coma for two days, a five-hour op to rebuild his pelvis.

Adam championed his teen son, Sam.

“He was in a wheelchair for eight weeks had to learn to walk again which he did really quickly, then he had to run which he did really really quickly, then he went back to doing his gymnastics and all his tumbling really really quickly.”

Despite the father and son duo starting the race together, Sam finished nearly three hours earlier than Adam, with the star continuing: “It has been pretty miraculous and then he goes and runs this in four hours and 24 minutes. It was brilliant.”

Adam completed the run in around seven hours, with he and Sam raising around £6,500 for the Air Ambulance Service in total.
