Liam Payne admits he's 'still angry' that Cheryl didn't give him an X Factor standing ovation

When Liam Payne’s romance with Cheyrl was first confirmed last year, many people were shocked.

As well as the 10-year age gap, Cheryl has been a mentor figure to Liam since he was 14 years old, with the Geordie star appearing as a judge on The X Factor back in 2008 when teen Liam first auditioned for the show.

Liam had already auditioned for Cheryl once before.

The singing hopeful made it through to Judge’s Houses but was eventually sent home, returning two years later when he was put into One Direcion and the rest, as they say, is history.

Cheryl was still a judge on the show back in the 1D days and Liam has now admitted that he is “still angry” over the fact that she didn’t give him a standing ovation when he auditioned with ‘Cry Me A River’.

Although Cheryl’s fellow judges Simon Cowell and Dannii Minogue stood up to applaud the singer after his audition, Cheryl remained firmly in her seat.

Louis Walsh also didn’t stand for Liam.

Speaking to Heat Radio, Liam seethed: “I got a standing ovation from everyone except for Cheryl, which I thought was hilarious.

“She said she was having a row with Simon because he should have stood up for somebody else, so she didn’t stand up for me.

“But I’m still, I’m still angry about that.”

Needless to say, we don’t want to be the ones to tell him that Louis Walsh didn’t stand up for him either…

How times change.

Liam’s comments come after Cheryl broke her Twitter silence in order to promote her beau’s upcoming debut solo single, ‘Strip That Down’, which is due for release tomorrow.

Having kept off social media since the arrival of her and Liam’s son, Bear, back in March, the star made a grand return to her page last night’s as she tweeted the hashtag for Liam’s song before interacting with her fans.

Meanwhile, the star’s ex-husband, Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini, was forced to navigate an incredibly awkward live TV interview when he was asked about Cheryl’s new arrival.

JB managed to maintain his cool as he swerved the question like a pro, instead moving the focus on to Cannes Film Festival.
