Katy Perry has taken to her popular Twitter page to pay tribute to a super-fan who tragically died in a car accident on Saturday.

Katie Bell, 18, from Louisiana sadly lost her life on Saturday when she lost control of her car and collided with another vehicle, with the other driver also passing away.

News of Katie’s death was soon shared across social media, with Katy’s millions of fans – known as Katy Cats – creating the hashtag #RIPKatycatKatie to pay tribute to the teen.

Eventually, the heartbreaking news caught Katy’s attention and she also paid poignant tribute to Katie.

Changing her Twitter name to ‘#RIPKatycatKatie’, the singer retweeted one of Katie’s videos and wrote: “We see you angel and we love and will miss you.

“KC’s, light a candle for Katie. Rest In Peace. [sic]”

The superstar’s tweet comforted the grieving fandom, with many thanking Katy for acknowledging Katie’s death.

One wrote: “Thank you so much for the love of your Katycats you can’t imagine how much it mean to us.”

Another added: “This means so much Katy, we seriously cannot thank you enough for everything you do. She’s shining right now.”

Poignantly, Katie regularly tweeted about how desperate she was for her idol, Katy, to notice her as well as giving constant praise and updates on the star’s career.
