EastEnders: Charlie Cotton to make an explosive return

Good news, EastEnders fans – it looks like the lovable Charlie Cotton is set to make an explosive return to Albert Square in a bid to claim his son, Matthew.

Jack Branning better watch out.

Welcome back, Charlie.
Welcome back, Charlie.

Ever since Ronnie Mitchell (Samantha Womack) was killed off, viewers were wondering when Charlie would be returning to Walford to reclaim his son, Matthew, and it looks like we don’t have too much longer to wait with actor Declan Bennett being spotted on set with his on-screen step-brother Jake Wood, who plays Max Branning.

Details of Charlie’s return have been kept firmly under wraps, but we doubt that Ronnie’s widowed husband, Jack, will be willing to give baby Matthew up without a fight.

Charlie first appeared on our screens back in 2014 as the secret grandson of Dot Branning (June Brown) and quickly fell for Ronnie, with the pair getting married and having a baby together.

However, heavily pregnant Ronnie was then in a horrifying car accident that left her in a coma – leaving Charlie to look after their newborn on his own and eventually falling for Ronnie’s sister, Roxy.

When Ronnie recovered from hospital she tried to stop Charlie from seeing their son and the businessman planned to run off with the tot, but when Ronnie caught wind of his plan she confronted him at a train station and Charlie ended up leaving without his son in tow.

Since Ronnie tragically died on New Year’s Day, Dot has been begging Jack – who is the son of her late husband, Jim Branning – to get in touch with Charlie so that Matthew can be with his real father, but Jack has refused.

Did Dot contact Charlie and tell him to come back to Walford? Whatever happens in the coming weeks, it’s going to be explosive.
