Michael Jackson was 'obsessed' with U2 and used to spy on them

It has been claimed that Michael Jackson used to be obsessed with Irish rock group U2 and became so concerned that they were going to overtake him in the success stakes that he even sent a private film crew to spy on them.

The music icon was apparently rocked by the monumental success of U2’s 1987 album ‘The Joshua Tree’ and was determined to uncover their secrets.

The private film crew that he ordered attempted to record the band in the studio in Dublin, however, the band’s manager, Paul McGuinness, found out and admits that he found it more than a little bit “creepy”.

Speaking out about the bizarre incident, U2 frontman Bono told The Sun: “Michael wanted to observe us in our natural habitat.”

However, neither Bono or his U2 bandmates commented any further.

Michael hardly had to worry about his competition.

The revelation comes after Michael’s 18-year-old daughter Paris paid loving tribute to her late father, admitting that he favoured her over her two brothers, Prince, 20, and Blanket, 15, because she was the only girl.

She explained: “When I was a kid, I was with my dad and my two brothers. Growing up, I was treated as the favourite because I was the only girl. I was the princess; I was perfect in my dad’s eyes.

“All of my inspiration. I would say 99 percent of my inspiration comes from him, because he has always been my world. He is my roots.

Paris recently gushed about her beloved father.

“He was the strongest person I know and tried to do everything with a much love and kindness as possible.”

Michael tragically passed away in June 2009, when Paris was just 11 years old.
