Jake Gyllenhaal refuses to talk about ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift in seriously awkward interview

It has been seven long years since Jake Gyllenhaal and Taylor Swift dated, with the three-month relationship hitting headlines due to the huge star power between the two as well as the fact that Jake is nine years older than the singer.

Despite the short-lived romance, Taylor was true to form and penned multiple songs about their fling, with it being widely speculated that album tracks ‘All Too Well’ and ‘The Last Time’ are about Jake as well as her huge hit single, ‘We Are Never Getting Back Together’.

Taylor’s move was no doubt unwelcome on Jake’s part, with the Hollywood actor being a notoriously private person, and when a reporter attempted to get his side of the story in a recent interview, Jake proved that he was not, under any circumstances, going to open up about TayTay.

Chatting to The Guardian about his new film, Life, reporter Tim Jonze bravely asked Jake if he ever thought that he was “playing with fire” by dating the immensely public Taylor due to his own preferences of keeping his private life private.

Jonze recalls: “Asking this proves to be a mistake. ‘I think when you’re in a relationship, you are constantly scrutinised, your friends are scrutinised, but…’ He trails off and stares at me, ramping up the intensity of his eyes like he’s done in so many roles.

“But what? Gyllenhaal just continues to stare. Then he performs an exaggerated shrug.”

The atmosphere doesn’t get any less tense when Jonze goes on to ask Jake if he’d listened to any of the songs that were rumoured to be about him, with Jake remaining silent before Jonze asks if he’d like to move on.

Jake replies: “I would love to not talk about my personal life.”

Jonze recounts: “‘Well,’ I say, ‘It’s not prying for intimate details, is it? It’s asking how you responded to things that have been put out there in the public domain.’

“But he disagrees and we end up engaging in a bizarre stand-off where anything I say is met same response, repeated through a cold smile: ‘I would love to talk about the movie.'”

Moral of the story? Never ever ask Jake Gyllenhaal about Taylor Swift.
