Ant McPartlin to spend 'one last Christmas' with wife Lisa Armstrong

Ant McPartlin and his wife Lisa Armstrong are planning to wait until after Christmas before deciding on the fate of their relationship, with the pair set to enjoy Christmas Day together – even if it is for the last time, it has been reported.

Ant and Lisa’s marriage has been under strain ever since Ant revealed that he has been struggling with a secret addiction to painkillers and alcohol earlier this year.

The star entered rehab to overcome his addiction and went straight to Los Angeles to continue with his recovery upon his discharge.

It was previously claimed that Ant will not be returning to his marital home when he returns from filming I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in Australia this month, but now an insider has reported otherwise.

Speaking to Heat magazine, the source said: “She’s said they will see each other over Christmas.

“Lisa would rather stay friendly than be resentful. She doesn’t want to ruin what they had – this isn’t a blame game.

“Ant wants to spend this Christmas with Lisa; Christmas as her husband – even if this could be the last time.”

Ant previously praised his wife for the way that she handled his stint in rehab, admitting that he put her “through hell” as he battled with depression and addiction.

The TV star told The Sun: “I’ve put Lisa through hell with mood swings and depression and how it affects you.

“I’m very sorry about the effect it has on partners. This kind of stuff puts strains on any marriage.

“In hindsight, I should have mentioned it earlier but you’re embarrassed about it.”

Lisa recently hit back at claims that she and Ant are “estranged” in a telling Twitter post, later going on to flash her wedding ring whilst appearing on Strictly Come Dancing’s sister programme, It Takes Two.

Ant first met Lisa in 1994 when she was in the band Deuce, just five years after he and his co-star Declan Donnelly first found fame in CBBC drama Byker Grove.

The pair tied the knot in 2006.
