Rita Ora installs a £20,000 panic room in her London home following terrifying burglary

Rita Ora has reportedly installed a £20,000 panic room in her London home in a huge overhaul of her security.

The star was left understandably shaken following an absolutely terrifying burglary back in November 2015, just weeks before her former colleague, Simon Cowell, was targeted in a similar attack.

Rita was left traumatised by the ordeal.

Rita and her sister Elena were asleep in her £1.3million mansion when 26-year-old Charaf Elmoudden broke in and stole £200,000 worth of goods, including computers, phones and designer clothes.

Last June, Elmoudden was sentenced to five years in prison but Rita stills suffers nightmares following her ordeal.

A source told the Daily Mail: “Rita is still incredibly shaken-up, and continues to have horrendous nightmares about the burglary.

“Although the perpetrator is in prison, it has not eased her peace of mind and she has been living in almost constant fear that something similar would happen again.

“Because Rita is in the public eye, she remains a target for thieves so had a security team come in and completely overhaul her personal security. At the press of a button, a huge steel wall slides down from the ceiling blocking her off from any intruders.

“From here, she can call the police and any would-be burglars cannot touch her. It was expensive, but you cannot put a price on safety.”

On the night of the burglary, Elena woke up to find Elmoudden in her bedroom and Rita’s subsequent call to 999 was played in court, causing the singer to break down in tears.

In the emotional phonecall, Rita begs the police to come to her home, saying: “I need you to come now, there is a robber in my house. I’ve just locked myself in my room, my sister saw him in her room. Please send them round now.”

Rita can then be heard shouting to the burglar: “Don’t you f*cking come up these stairs. I will f*ck you up – you f*cking hear me? Oh my God, I don’t have a knife, I know they’re going to come upstairs.

“What do I do? What do I do? Oh my God. F*cking hell – I’m scared to go downstairs.”

Recalling the night in court, Rita added: “I went to sleep and was woken up by a scream. I was half asleep, then woke up and heard my sister running up the stairs.

“I opened the door, she just ran up the stairs then she jumped on my bed and started screaming.”
