Ed Sheeran to appear in the new season of Game Of Thrones

Exciting news: Ed Sheeran has become the latest musician to sign up for a cameo in Game Of Thrones, with the flame-haired star being confirmed as a special guest during last night’s South by South West panel for the show.

No details have been released about his role.

Speaking at the panel, show co-creator David Benioff revealed that he was determined to secure Ed’s cameo as a surprise for actress Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark in the show, because she is such a huge fan of his.

He explained: “For years, we tried to get Ed Sheeran on the show to surprise Maisie, and this year we finally did it.”

Ed confirmed the good news on social media, retweeting an article about his role and adding: “Guess the cat’s out the bag.”

Needless to say, the announcement sent Ed’s fans into a tizzy, with his followers replying in abundance on Twitter:

However, some fans of the show were less than impressed by the news:

Previous musical Game Of Thrones cameos include members of Coldplay, Mastodon, Of Monsters and Men, and Sigur Ros.

Sigur Rus and Of Monsters and Men were performing during their stint on the show, and Mastodon were transformed into unrecognisable zombified members of the Wildlings.

There’s no word if Ed will be performing, recognisable, or even appearing alongside Maisie, but we are certain that whatever he does will be incredible.

Game Of Thrones returns to our screens on Sunday, July 16th.
