Daily Digit: Most Americans don't know their neighbors

Daily Digit is the story behind the numbers that make our world work. Today we’re looking at not-so-friendly neighborhoods. According to a new study from Pew Research, only 31 percent of Americans say they know all or most of their neighbors. Americans in rural areas do slightly better at 40 percent, versus 24 percent in urban neighborhoods. That may be because of lower turnover, as 63 percent of residents in rural areas have lived there for 11 years or more. It seems that the closer you live to them, the less well you know your neighbors.
