Chrissy Teigen hits back at online mummy shamers

Chrissy Teigen isn’t exactly known for being the shy and retiring type, and just days after candidly opening up about her battle with post-natal depression the star has spoken out against the incessant ‘mummy-shaming’ that plagues the internet.

Chrissy and her husband, John Legend, welcomed their first baby, Luna, back in April and their every move has faced the scrutiny of the public ever since.

Last night, the model took to Twitter to share screenshots of negative comments an article about herself had received, with readers criticising Luna’s outfit.

The cruel messages read: “Golden rule of dressing babies is however many layers you are wearing plus an extra one. Common sense really.

“That baby never shows emotions, she never smiles or cries. It’s weird.

“They both have jackets on and they can’t event put a pair of socks on the poor baby.”

Chrissy captioned the screenshot with: “Imagine being this miserable. We are fine, thanks.”

She later added: “Some people are just hell bent on being the f*cking worst.”

This isn’t the first time that Chrissy has been on the receiving end of mummy shaming, with the star being slammed shortly after Luna was born when she and John went out for dinner without the tot.

Chrissy later clarified that Luna had been left with her mother for the short time that she and John were away, later poking fun at the backlash by tweeting that she didn’t know how Luna was doing because she can’t find her.

Earlier this week, the fun-loving star shocked her fans when she bravely revealed that she’d been battling with postpartum depression ever since Luna’s arrival, only seeking medical help in December.

She shared: “When I wasn’t in the studio [filming ‘Lip Sync Battle’], I never left the house. I mean, never. Not even a tiptoe outside. I’d ask people who came inside why they were wet. Was it raining? How would I know – I had every shade closed.

“Most days were spent on the exact same spot on the couch and rarely would I muster up the energy to make it upstairs for bed. John would sleep on the couch with me, sometimes four nights in a row.

“I started keeping robes and comfy clothes in the pantry so I wouldn’t have to go upstairs when John went to work. There was a lot of spontaneous crying.”

Thankfully she now has the illness under control, saying of her diagnosis: “I remember being so exhausted but happy to know that we could finally get on the path of getting better. John had that same excitement.

“I started taking an antidepressant, which helped. And I started sharing the news with friends and family – I felt like everyone deserved an explanation, and I didn’t know how else to say it other than the only way I know: just saying it.

“It got easier and easier to say it aloud every time.”

We think that both John and Chrissy are doing a wonderful job as parents to little Luna.
