Piers Morgan slams Scarlett Moffatt for 'ending her parents' career'

Piers Morgan isn’t exactly known for keeping his opinions to himself so it comes as no surprise that he has something to say about Scarlett Moffatt’s family being axed from Gogglebox following her hugely successful celebrity career.

In fact, the controversial rent-a-gob has accused the 26-year-old star of ending her parents’ career.

Erm, bit harsh, Piers?

Speaking on Good Morning Britain earlier today, Piers ranted: “It will be a bit tense in the Moffatt household.

“Young Scarlett becomes a big star through I’m A Celebrity and has now effectively ended her parents’ TV career.”

Entertainment editor Richard Arnold joked back: “I heard she’s bought a mock Tudor mansion in Berks, a sit down mower and her parents are actually sleeping in a car outside, it’s that awkward.”

The comments come after Scarlett admitted that she was “gutted” that her dad Mark, mum Betty and little sister Ava had been given the boot – confessing that she thought her family would be able to continue working on the show without her.

Replying to a fan on Twitter, she wrote: “We are gutted too, thought my mam and dad (and little Ava) would still be able to do it but we will still be watching.”

Over on Instagram she shared a photo of herself with her mum and dad at this year’s NTAs, writing: “We are going to miss doing #gogglebox so so much but can’t wait to watch the new series (good luck my fellow goggleboxers you will smash it love the Moffatts)”.

A source previously said of Channel 4’s decision to axe the family: “The whole premise of Gogglebox is normal people commenting on the TV. Scarlett is now a celebrity in her own right so it made sense she wouldn’t continue.

Scarlett’s career has gone from strength to strength since winning I’m A Celeb.

“She and her parents came as a package. It wouldn’t work so well without all three of them.”

Last year, Scarlett insisted that she wouldn’t quit Gogglebox in favour of any reality TV show, however, she seemingly changed her tune when approached by I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, quitting the Channel 4 show and going on to become Queen of the jungle.

She has gone on to have huge TV success, co-hosting the National Television Awards, joining Ant and Dec for the new series of Saturday Night Takeaway, and fronting the new series of dating show Streetmate.
