Chris Rock Admits He ‘Wasn’t a Good Husband’ to Ex-Wife Malaak
Details of Chris Rock’s divorce last year from his wife of nearly 20 years, Malaak Compton Rock, were sealed. However, in his new comedy tour the comedian reveals some of what went wrong.
“I wasn’t a good husband,” Rock told an audience in Durham, N.C., during the first show of his “Total Blackout Tour.” “I didn’t listen. I wasn’t kind. I cheated.”

The New York Times published the comments as part of a review of the 52-year-old’s latest show.
The longtime couple’s divorce was finalized in August 2016, although they split two years earlier. They share two daughters, 14-year-old Lola, and Zahra, 12. During the split, they argued about whether Rock would pay child support for a third child, who, Malaak claimed in court documents, “resided with the parties since before her first birthday.”
Interestingly, the Top Five star is the one who filed for divorce.
At the time of the breakup, People spoke with a source close to the couple, who explained the decision: “This was a long time coming. Chris has known it wasn’t salvageable for a while. He was the one to file because he knew it was time to just move forward already.”
Rock married Malaak in November 1996. Within two years, he and his wife were already on a break, when he had a sexual encounter that resulted in a paternity suit.
In 2006, TMZ reported that Rock had hired a divorce attorney. The couple issued a statement that they were happy with their marriage.

One year later, Rock filed papers in a Georgia court to determine he was the father of another woman’s 13-year-old son.
The I Think I Love My Wife star has found love after his split, with actress Megalyn Echikunwoke, who denied being engaged to Rock last year. Judging by his act, he probably won’t be married again, at least for a while.
One of his more famous jokes about marriage is, “You can be married and bored, or single and lonely. Ain’t no happiness nowhere.”
