Petition launched for George Michael tribute bench in Hampstead Heath

A petition has been launched for the late singer, George Michael, to be honoured with a memorial bench in Hampstead Heath.

Hampstead Heath was said to be George’s favourite park and featured in his episode of Ricky Gervais’ sitcom ‘Extras’, joking that he used a “queer bench” in the park to find casual sex.

Lead campaigner, Tony Antoniou hopes to commemorate George’s life and good humour with the tribute, explaining: “George Michael loved Hampstead Heath park so much. It was his favourite park and he would often go there for some time to himself.

“I now want to pay further tribute to George Michael with your kind support. His fans will love this and will agree to it.

“It’s the least they can do as this was his favourite and local park.”

So far, the petition has gained almost 1,000 supporters.

George sadly passed away on Christmas Day but it is not yet known what the cause of his death was.

A post-mortem proved inconclusive and it is understood that further tests are being carried out, with authorities insisting that his death was “unexplained but not suspicious”.
