Peter Andre backtracks on comments defending Donald Trump

Peter Andre unsurprisingly sparked backlash this week when he appeared to showcase support for controversial US President, Donald Trump.

Now the singer has attempted to backtrack, insisting that he no longer agrees with the politician following the so-called ‘Muslim Ban’.

Peter has lived to regret his comments.

But first things first.

It all started when Peter wrote about Trump in this week’s new! magazine, sharing: “Can we just take a moment to talk about Donald Trump? There are so many people for him as well as against him, but at the end of the day he’s the President of the US and people need to accept that.

“He has to be given a chance and I think he may just make some positive changes for America.

“I know there are people who will disagree with me, but from what I’ve seen and heard so far, he’s been pretty true to what he said he was going to do.

“I quite like Trump. He’s bonkers, but he’s funny with it. Yes, he has done some things in the past that I will never agree with, but he may come up trumps for America.”

Yikes – anybody else read that between their fingers?

Anti-Trump protests have taken place across the globe.

Peter, who is Greek Cypriot, was inundated with angry responses from his fans, who admitted that they were “disappointed” in the father-of-four.

Responding to the comments, Peter has insisted that he wrote the column before news of Trump’s strict immigration polices was announced, replying to one fan with: “I wrote my collumn [sic] last week before he put this ban on which I totally disagree with does that make sense? [sic]”

He added to another follower: “Def don’t agree with the ban.”

Trump’s executive order to prevent immigrants from seven countries from entering the US – even if they already have green cards – was met with international protests after it was announced last Friday.
