The best Spring Break hotels for under $150 a night

As we kick off February, many people have one thing on their minds: spring break.

According to travel site Kayak, the most affordable airfare can be found 21 days before your trip, and most experts suggest booking hotel rooms about four to six weeks in advance. The majority of schools celebrate spring break during the second or third week of March, which means the time to start planning is now.

To help you find affordable accommodations, US News & World Report has just released their list of the best hotels you can book for $150 a night – or less! Here are some affordable lodging options in popular spring break destinations in the US and beyond.

Mexico

Let’s start with Mexico, a popular beach destination for spring breakers looking for sun and nightlife. If you’re on a budget, consider staying at the Camino Real Acapulco Diamante a simple resort with rates hovering around $104 to $140 a night. Located about six miles southeast of Playa Condesa in Central Acapulco the Camino Real has three pools, two restaurants and a small private beach — pretty much all you need for a successful spring break trip.

If an urban adventure is more your speed, Mexico City is a great destination for dining, culture, and shopping. While there, stay at the Galeria Plaza Reforma, a centrally located hotel equipped with a rooftop pool, comfy rooms and free wi-fi. Nightly rates average between $70 and $90.

Need to escape the frigid weather? Head to Freeport, Bahamas, a popular spring break destination for co-eds and families. There are a wide variety of pricey resorts on the island, but the cost-conscious will find comfortable accommodations at the Grand Lucayan, an affordable option equipped with a golf course, spa and beach. A standard room here will cost $115 to $140 a night.

The Caribbean

Located between Aruba and Bonaire, Curacao is a Dutch island known for its beautiful coral reef and pristine beaches. With affordable accommodations, this often overlooked getaway is perfect for a spring break that won’t break the bank. If you make the trip, check in at the Floris Suite Hotel: its spacious rooms come with balconies, living areas and kitchenettes. There aren’t a lot of frills, and the beach is about a five-minute walk from the hotel, but for $60 to $90 a night, the savings are worth the extra steps on your Fitbit.

New Orleans

Mardi Gras takes place on Feb. 28 this year, which coincides with some of the earlier college spring breaks. If you want to save money while watching parade floats and dining on beignets, stay at the Renaissance New Orleans Pere Marquette. Located in the French Quarter, this charming and modern hotel is just two blocks from Bourbon Street and has an average nightly room rate of $130. Even if you don’t make it for Mardi Gras, March is still a great time to visit NOLA. The average temperature is 72 degrees and let’s be honest, the party never really stops in The Big Easy.

Lake Tahoe, Nevada

And finally, if you prefer a snowboard instead of a surfboard, Lake Tahoe might be the perfect spring break destination for you. Going in March means the weather will be warming up, but there is still a good chance for snowfall. Even so, the nature in the area is breathtaking, making it the perfect place to hike, bike, and horseback ride. Even better, the Harrah’s Lake Tahoe has standard rooms for $90 to $110 a night. So even if you don’t get to ski, you can enjoy the nightlife, concerts and gambling at the hotel.
