US police threaten drunk drivers with Justin Bieber

A US police force has gone viral after they threatened to punish drunk drivers with Justin Bieber.

The force, from Wyoming, Minnesota, took to their official Twitter page on Sunday night to poke fun at Justin’s new T-Mobile advert, which premiered during the Super Bowl that same evening.

Justin Bieber’s ad was deemed irritating by Super Bowl viewers.

The authorities quipped: “If you drive drunk tonight we’re going to subject you to that Justin Bieber @TMobile Super Bowl Commercial the entire way to jail.”

In the ad, Bieber is seen debuting his finest dance moves in a questionable outfit, saying: “This guy’s got the shimmedy sham-sham shimmedy shake right there.”

And Wyoming Police’s threat seemingly did the trick, with the original tweet being retweeted thousands of times and the force reporting no incidents of drunk driving on Sunday night.

The tweet appeared to do the job.

Maybe they should use the same threat every night, eh?

Police Chief Paul Hoppe told the Pioneer Press that he hoped referencing Justin Bieber would help promote their public service announcement about driving responsibly during the Super Bowl, adding: “It gets people to actually stop and read the message.”

Wyoming Police later changed their tactics.

The New England Patriots ended up winning the Super Bowl in a historic 34-28 comeback, and when this happened the force mocked Americans love:hate relationship with the Patriots, writing: “Scrap the Bieber punishment, if you’re caught drinking and driving we’re going to make you watch Patriots’ #SB51 gametape. #Brutal”.

Last November, a Canadian police force tried a similar trick to Wyoming police, threatened to force drunk drivers to listen to Nickelback if they are caught.
