EastEnders star Kellie Bright has finally announced the arrival of her baby boy – and opened up about the traumatic few weeks after his birth.

Kellie, who is known for her role as landlady Linda Carter in the BBC soap, gave birth to her second son Gene Harlyn on November 21 last year, seven hours after going into labour.

However, Gene's health went downhill shortly after Kellie and husband Paul Stocker brought him home, meaning the newborn had to be rushed back into hospital.

"He had a nasty cough but the doctors assured me he'd be fine," Kellie told OK! magazine. "Then he suddenly went downhill, so we rushed him to hospital where he was diagnosed with bronchitis.

"He had to spend a few nights in hospital on oxygen, but he's home now and well on the road to recovery."

Discussing the inspiration behind Gene's name, Kellie said: "It was sort of because of my nan.

"She and I watched a lot of Gene Kelly when I was growing up and just adored him. Then Gene Wilder died last year when I was pregnant, so it felt more special."

Kellie and Paul are already parents to 5-year old Freddy, but it seems the actress is still keen to expand the family even further.

"I said right away in the delivery room that I wanted another baby. I don't feel ready to shut the door on motherhood just yet," she added.

"If we do have another one, it won't be immediately. I want to enjoy Gene and give him that time as a baby that we gave Freddy, so maybe three years."

Kellie is currently on maternity leave from EastEnders, and Linda's temporary exit aired over Christmas when she flew out to Spain after her mum suffered a stroke.

EastEnders continues tonight at 8pm on BBC One.
