France names a road 'Brexit Street' - but it just takes you round in circles

Be it hard, soft, red, white or blue, Brexit now has its own street – and it’s a road to nowhere.

French Front National mayor Julien Sanchez has decided to name a street in his town Beaucaire ‘Rue de Brexit’ as a ‘tribute to the sovereign British people’.

Observers have been quick to point out that the street, a nothing road in a grimy industrial area of the town, doesn’t actually go anywhere.

Instead, it’s a circular ring road – a 325-metre loop that goes nowhere but back on itself – which we’re sure isn’t quite the symbolism the far-right politician was going for.

The road is also nestled between two streets named after founding fathers of the EU – rue Robert Schumann and rue Jean Monnet.

Sanchez claims that he’s received a lot of support from Brits, although we couldn’t find much beyond a few ‘leave’ accounts on Twitter.

Residents who object to Brexit Street have two months to challenge the name before it sticks (although the mayor says he will be inaugurating it before then).

The Front National party are very interested in Brexit because their leader, Marie Le Pen, says she will call for a similar referendum for France if she is elected President in May.
