Eight month pregnant woman attacked and pinned to ground by car thieves

An eight-month pregnant woman in Birmingham was attacked by two car thieves who pinned her to the ground and sprayed a noxious substance in her eyes.

The two men who carried out the shocking assault were captured on video and the footage has been released by police.

The heavily pregnant woman had her car keys snatched by two men who then drove off in her grey Volkswagen Golf.

Police have been able to recover the stolen vehicle and are now examining it for any forensic clues.

The woman was taken to hospital and both she and the baby were “doing well”, said officers.

The attack happened on Sunday night in the Yardley area, at around 7:50pm.

“The pregnant victim was taken to hospital where she and unborn baby were monitored and treated for minor injuries. They are both are doing well,” said Sergeant Philip Poole, who is leading the investigation.

He added: “We’ve secured CCTV and recovered the car, but we’re still appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anything suspicious, or has any other information which they believe will assist the investigation to come forward.”
