EastEnders' Christmas storylines revealed: Max Branning is finally back

The EastEnders’ Christmas storylines have finally been revealed and trust us when we say that we are definitely in for a good one.

Ah, there really isn’t anything like a Walford Christmas, is there?

First things first, we are excited to confirm that Jake Wood’s beloved character of Max Branning is finally due to return to our screens this festive season – and we’re willing to bet that he isn’t a happy bunny.

In case you had somehow managed to forget, Max was wrongly imprisoned for Lucy Beale’s murder last year even though half the bloomin’ square seemed to know that Bobby Beale was the real culprit.

Ian and Jane Beale, Sharon and Phil Mitchell, and even Max’s own daughter, Lauren, knew that Max wasn’t guilty of the heinous crime yet allowed him to be sent down anyway – with Lauren eventually ditching her dad entirely and jetting off to New Zealand whilst he rotted in prison.

Hm, something tells us that he will definitely have a bone to pick over that one…

Max made an incredibly brief reappearance in Walford earlier this year after he was released from the slammer and it’s unknown how he will make his grand return next month, but it will definitely be one to watch – after all, any EastEnders fan knows that a Max Branning Christmas episode is the best kind of Christmas episode.

And Max isn’t the only thing that the Mitchells have to deal with as Phil’s cirrhosis worsens and his health continuing to deteriorate – much to his family’s despair.

It has also been revealed that Christmas will see Lee Carter’s depression battle come to a head as his mountain of secrets becomes too much for him to handle – will he admit to stealing his mum’s charity money?

Or will it all become too much for the tragic character?

With Danny-Boy Hatchard, the actor who plays Lee, set to bow out of the show in the coming weeks, some fans speculate that the Carters will not be having a happy Christmas this year.

Finally, Ronnie and Roxy Mitchell are set to meet a grisly end over the festive period, with it being hotly rumoured that the pair will drown on New Year’s Day – although this has not been confirmed by show bosses.

Death, depression and revenge? It certainly sounds like it will be another happy Christmas in Walford…
